Naturally grown solutions for rapid and sustainable relief housing

Ecovative Design LLC has developed patented and patentable technology for producing composite biomaterials from filamentous fungi and agricultural byproducts. The self-assembling bonds formed by mycelium (mushroom “roots”) produce this material as it grows around a substrate of regionally sourced agricultural byproducts. These waste products are “glued” together by the fungal mycelium into any shape in less than a week in an indoor, low-energy process, and the final material is home compostable. As a materials research company, Ecovative is actively and extensively tuning this technology for furniture, automotive, acoustic, and construction industries. Developing nations will experience large-scale benefits from the application of this technology for affordable housing communities.
