World Bicycle Relief, a non-profit founded by SRAM, LLC, has already distributed over 105,000 robust, purpose-built bicycles through contract-to-own programs and direct sales. Typically available bicycles in Africa are of such poor quality that they cannot meet the end-users’ needs; by making extensive use of SRAM engineering expertise, World Bicycle Relief is providing a sturdy, purpose-built bicycle. SRAM’s new patent pending hub component will provide a reliable gearing option, increasing the bicycles’ effectiveness under load and in hillier regions. Ultimately, SRAM’s new technology will make bicycle transportation accessible to millions more people than are currently being reached with single-speed bicycles.
